Meet Australian Boxer Tiana Echegaray

Tiana Echegaray is an Australian boxer who won the 54kg title of New South Wales (NSW) State Boxing Champion. She has a nine-win streak and has won other titles in Sydney, NSW, Australia. Now as of 2024, she is qualified for the Summer Olympics in Paris.

Tiana Echegaray earned her spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics through her great performance at the Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands, in November 2023. She won by unanimous decision against Tonga’s Hainite Kayla Tuitupou in the women’s 54kg weight class.

Tiana will be one of a record 12 Australian boxers going to the Paris Olympics. Australia did very well overall at the Pacific Games. The Pacific Games was an important chance for boxers to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Tiana’s success at this event was key for her journey to make it to the big sporting competition.

Tiana Echegaray Date of Birth, Family, Early Life

Tiana Echegaray was born in 1993 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. But she grew up in Sydney.

Tiana’s mother’s name is Tongia Baker-Mato. She has two brothers named Jayson and Midas.

After finishing school at the Australian Institute of Fitness, Tiana now works as a personal trainer and also teaches boxing.

Tiana Boxing Career So Far

In 2019, Tiana started boxing to get fit. But she quickly fell in love with the sport because of the good changes it made to her lifestyle. Just six months after taking up boxing, she won her first New South Wales title. She weighs 54 kg. Her boxing clubs since junior level are No Quarter Boxing, Alexandria.

In 2022, Tiana won her first Australian title. She said this was the biggest moment of her career so far. At the Pacific Games, Tiana won the women’s 54kg division by beating Tonga’s Hainite Kayla Tuitupou. The judges all scored in Tiana’s favor. By becoming the Australian champion in 2022 and qualifying for Paris Olympics 2024, Tiana became an important part of Australia’s boxing team for the upcoming Olympics.
