American rower Azja Czajkowski who was born on November 1, 1986, participated in the 2020 Summer Olympics in the women’s lightweight double sculls competition. She won Silver in the Lightweight Double Sculls – Women in 2022 and Bronze in the Women’s Lightweight Double Sculls at the 2017 World Rowing Championships. She is also eligible to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Azja Czajkowski from Imperial Beach, California, and Stanford University, along with Jessica Thoennes from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and the University of Washington, finished first in the women’s pair event. By winning, they earned spots to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Thoennes previously rowed in the women’s eight at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, while this will be Czajkowski’s first Olympic team.

At the 500-meter mark, Czajkowski and Thoennes were even with Hannah Paynter from Lyme, Connecticut, and Princeton University, and Hannah Heideveld from New Brunswick, New Jersey, and Rutgers University. However, in the second quarter of the race, Czajkowski and Thoennes made a big move to take a five-second lead at the halfway point. They continued increasing their lead, winning by more than seven seconds.

Czajkowski and Thoennes finished with a time of 7 minutes and 37.62 seconds. Paynter and Heideveld crossed the line second in 7 minutes and 45.26 seconds. The crew of Erin Reelick from Brookfield, Connecticut, and Princeton University, and Emily Froehlich from Fishers, Indiana, and the University of Texas, representing USTC-Princeton/Craftsbury Green Racing Project, placed third at the 2024 U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Team Trials for Rowing.

“It feels really good,” “I don’t think it’s fully processed for me yet. Hugely relieved and very excited. We had a very strong middle 1,000 (meters), and the last 500, for me, you’re going so hard that you’re on the verge of blacking out. It’s just a lot of happy emotions and a lot of lactic acid.”

Azja Czajkowski was born on June 16, 2000, in San Diego, California, United States. Currently, she lives in Imperial Beach, California. Her parents are John and Katrine Czajkowski. Azja has one younger sister named Aurora. She is 6 feet tall (182 cm) and weighs 175 pounds (79 kg).

Azja’s father rowed at the United States Naval Academy, and her mother rowed at Georgetown University. They encouraged Azja to start rowing after she became tired of swimming in high school. In her free time, Azja enjoys hiking, crocheting, looking at funny pictures online, and origami. Her current coach is Pat Kington.

Azja considers her parents her personal heroes. They both work for the public high school district and work hard to provide every opportunity for Azja and her sister. Azja thinks it is cool that rowing brought her parents together. She wants to go as far as possible in rowing because of what her parents have given her.

In 2017, Czajkowski finished seventh in the eight events at the World Rowing Junior Championships.

In 2018, Czajkowski won a silver medal in the eighth event at the World Rowing Junior Championships.

In 2021, Czajkowski won the varsity eight event at the PAC-12 Women’s Rowing Championships and the championship eight at the Head of the Charles Regatta. She took part in the Ulman Foundation’s 4k for Cancer running relay across America. Czajkowski’s father rowed at the United States Naval Academy and her mother rowed at Georgetown University.

In 2022, Czajkowski won the eighth event at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships. She finished second in the first varsity eight and the team standings at the 2021 and 2022 NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships. Czajkowski won the varsity eight at the 2022 PAC-12 Women’s Rowing Championships. She was named USRowing’s co-Under 23 Female Athlete of the Year in 2022 and the PAC-12 Rower of the Year in 2022. Czajkowski was also named a CRCA Scholar Athlete in 2020, 2021, and 2022. Her hobbies include running, hiking, camping, and crocheting.

In 2023, Czajkowski was an alternate at the World Rowing Championships. She won the first varsity eight and team title at the NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships.

In 2024, Czajkowski won the pair event at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Team Trials for Rowing.
