Paris Olympics 2024 (Team USA): Meet Dominique Stater

Dominique Stater, 23, is a well-known American Sailor who secured the 2024 Paris Olympic spot for Team USA windsurfing after gold at the 2023 Pan American Games. She started sailing at 12 when her family moved to Buenos Aires for her father’s diplomatic role.

Dominique Stater’s Early Years in Argentina

Dominique Stater was born on January 22, 2001, in Miami, Florida spent much of her childhood overseas as part of a traveling U.S. diplomat family, living in Nicaragua, Peru, Chile, and Colombia and finally settling in Buenos Aires in 2012.

As the sole female member of the 9-person windsurfing club at Walt Whitman High School and AsociaciĆ³n Escuelas Lincoln. After graduation, Stater headed back stateside to attend the University of Miami and stay close to the ocean for practice.

The daughter of Tim Stater and Jacqueline Peacock secured a coveted Paris 2024 Olympic spot for Team USA with her gold medal iQFOiL performance at the 2023 Pan American Games. She also had two siblings, a little brother named Alan Stater.

Dominique Stater is in a Relationship

American windsurfing sensation Dominique Stater appears to be in a relationship with fellow sailor Grae Morris based on recent social media activity.

Morris first posted a photo with Stater on his Instagram account on December 2, 2023.

Dominique Stater Qualifies for Paris Olympics 2024

American windsurfing Dominique Stater secured her place at the U.S. Olympics in Paris 2024 with a spectacular gold medal showing in the iQFOiL class at last month’s Pan American Games.

The Miami built up steam over 8 straight days of competition held on her home waters, locking down first-place honors. Her gold medal effort secured the 2024 Olympic quota spot available for American women.

At December’s iQFOiL North American Continental Championships, she achieved silver.

Dominique Stater’s Career So Far

Dominique Stater’s passion for windsurfing started nearly 11 years ago during her father’s diplomatic occupation in Buenos Aires when the then 12-year-old started taking sailing lessons. After attempts at the more dangerous kiteboarding, her mother recommended trying windsurfing instead. Stater quickly took to the sport and spent years honing her skills across Central and South America as her family moved for her father’s State Department job.

She burst onto the competitive scene representing Team USA in the Techno 293 class at the 2018 Youth Olympics on her childhood Argentina local grounds. Stater also gained experience in the RS:X Olympic class at the Youth World Championships in China and Poland over the next few years.

Dominique has major wins almost yearly since appearing stateside, taking top honors at well-known events like San Francisco, Long Beach, and the 2022 U.S. Open Series in Miami. After securing another Open Series win in 2023, she qualified for France’s 2023 Test Event and the Netherlands’ Foil World Championships.

By capturing gold at January’s U.S. Open Miami event and placing first for an American woman in February’s U.S. Open Clearwater regatta, Stater sealed her spot to represent the U.S. at this year’s Pan American Games in Chile.
