American sailor Ford Mccann, 24, is the winner of the ILCA Youth Championships in 2017, the 2019 ICSA Singlehanded National, the 2023 US Nationals, and the 2023 US Sailing Trials.
Ford continues to compete internationally as a member of the Georgetown Sailing Team and the U.S. Olympic Development Sailing Team. He’s also qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Ford Mccann qualifies for the Paris Olympics 2024
Ford McCann has qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics. He achieved this by finishing in second place overall at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Sailing in Miami, Florida, in the ILCA 7 fleet. McCann maintained the lead from the first day of the event, securing his athlete selection with a six-point advantage over Leo Boucher, who came in second place.
Although the U.S. men’s team still needs to obtain country qualification for the ILCA 7 class at the 2024 Last Chance Regatta in Hyères, France, McCann’s strong performance at the Trials has earned him a spot to represent Team USA at the Paris 2024 Olympics, pending the country qualification.
McCann expressed that the Trials event was challenging, as there were many skilled competitors, but he was able to cross the competition successfully and secure his place on the Olympic team. His achievement is a testament to his talent and hard work in the sport of sailing.
Ford McCann’s Early years and his Siblings
Ford McCann was born and raised in Houston, Texas, but he currently lives and trains in Miami, Florida. He has a twin brother named Marshall, who is also a sailor. Ford has a sister named Macey Ann McCann as well.
Ford has been part of the U.S. Sailing Olympic Development Team since 2016. Even during his college years, he continued to compete for the United States Olympic Development Team in both American and international World Championship regattas. Ford graduated from Georgetown University in May 2022, where he majored in finance and management.
In addition to being a member of the Georgetown Sailing Team, Ford is also part of the U.S. Olympic Development Sailing Team, and he continues to compete internationally.
Ford McCann and His Sailing Career
In 2017, he won the ILCA Youth Championships, demonstrating his early talent and success in the sport. Then, in 2019, he became the ICSA Singlehanded National Champion, showcasing his exceptional skill in singlehanded sailing competitions.

In 2020, Ford secured 4th place at the U.S. Olympic Trials. The following year, in 2021, he was the top finisher for the Hoyas at the ICSA MEN’S Singlehanded National Championships, after winning the national championship in the spring of 2021, when the event was shifted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, he placed 2nd at the ILCA North Americans Championships that year.
Most recently, in 2023, Ford had an outstanding performance, winning both the 2023 U.S. Sailing Trials ILCA 7 and the 2023 U.S. Nationals, further showcasing his competitive prowess and success in sailing competitions.
