Bboy Victor Qualified For Paris Olympics 2024

Bboy Victor, whose dancing name is B-Boy Victor, is the first American breakdancer to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 28-year-old Montalvo earned his spot on the United States Olympic team by winning the gold medal at the 2023 WDSF World Championship in Leuven, Belgium, in September. He defeated Canadian Philip Kim, known as B-Boy Phil Wizard, in the final match.

“Breaking started in the U.S., started in the Bronx. So it’s only right for a U.S. breaker to win the world championship, you know?” “So I’m glad I’m a part of history.”

Victor said in a phone interview with USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday afternoon.

Victor is most excited about having some family members come to Paris to watch him compete. He has never traveled abroad with family before or seen them in another country, so this will be a new experience he is looking forward to.

Additionally, he is eager to see the historic opening ceremony, which will take place on the river in Paris. He has also heard that Red Bull is building a house in Paris specifically for their sponsored athletes competing in the Olympics.

Victor is focused on winning the breaking competition at the Paris Olympics.

“I don’t care, I’m going to do my best to win.”

Though family responsibilities pulled Bermudez away, he was determined to pass breaking on to his son Victor. With guidance from the late legendary b-boy Mex One, Victor’s love for breaking grew over the years. His hobbies are cycling, boxing, and fitness.

Growing up in Kissimmee, Florida, B-Boy Victor got serious about breaking in 2005 at age 11. At 14, he had his first breaking battle, and his father paid $500 for a passport so Victor could compete at the IBE event in the Netherlands. His signature moves include the one-hand spin called the “Super Montalvo” and a backflip into a flare combo.

Bboy Victor is happily married to his wife Kate

Bboy Victor is married to B-Girl Kate. Kate was born on June 2nd, 1995, and raised in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Her nationality is Ukrainian. In 2009, when Kate was 14 years old, she joined a dance class labeled ‘extreme dancing’, which led her to discover and start breaking (breakdancing).

Kate was born and grew up in Kharkiv, Ukraine, but she currently lives in California, USA with Victor. She has been dancing since she was 6 years old. The specific style of breaking is what she started training in 2009 after joining that ‘Extreme Dancing’ class.

Despite her intense training schedule of practicing breaking for 2-3 hours every day, Kate remains dedicated to supporting her family back home in Ukraine, which is currently experiencing war conditions. To consistently provide help, she has set a personal rule to send at least $5 daily to her loved ones in Ukraine.

Right now, Kate is preparing to compete in the breaking event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. On the Olympic qualifying rankings, B-Girl Kate is currently ranked 32nd position with 890 points.

Victor began breaking at the age of just 6

When Victor was 6 years old, his father Victor Bermudez, and uncle Hector, who were breaking dance pioneers in Mexico in the 1980s, introduced him to breaking. His mother and brother did not think he would succeed because of his interest in b-boying. Victor used to do krumping too, which mixes American and African street dance styles.

In 2011, Victor had his first major success at a breaking competition in the United States. This led him to leave the country for his first international trip. However, he had never had a passport before, so he had to quickly apply for one.

He also decided to drop out of school and eventually moved to Europe for several months. At just 14 years old, he won first place in the Red Bull BC One Tampa Cypher event in 2011. After this, B-Boy Victor was invited to the Red Bull BC One Cypher finals in Chicago, which he also won.

In 2014, B-Boy Victor got his first big breakthrough when he won a breaking battle in France and then another one in Taiwan. He believes that there are two important aspects to breaking – the battling/competing part and the cultural part. The song “Slam” by Onyx gets him pumped up and energized. He describes his breaking style as powerful, explosive, energetic, and smooth. His style was influenced by B-Boy Thunder and B-Boy Evo Mad Nico.

His National and World championships

In 2015, Victor had a hugely successful year, winning 3 major championships which earned him $30,000 in total. He won titles at the Undisputed World B-Boy Masters in France, the Red Bull BC One World Champion event in North America, the Red Bull BC One World Final in Italy, the Freestyle Sessions World Final in the USA, and the Silverback Open Championship in the USA. In addition to competing, Victor may have also served as a judge at some breaking competitions or led workshops and classes to share his skills with aspiring b-boys.

2016 saw Victor receive the title at The Notorious IBE event in the Netherlands. He remained a core member of the Squadron crew, representing them at competitions, shows, and collaborations worldwide, significantly contributing to the crew’s success.
