Nicholas secured his spot in the Paris Olympics by finishing among the top 10 swimmers in the 10km race at the World Championships held in Doha. He was in excellent form leading up to this Olympic year and completed the 10km race in 1 hour, 48 minutes, and 29.60 seconds, finishing fifth.
The Australian team had a highly successful championship, with a dramatic victory in the mixed 4x1500m relay event. To further his professional swimming career, Nicholas joined the Noosa Club, where he has been coached by John Rogers ever since.
Nicholas made his international debut at the 2018 Pan-Pacific Championships held in Tokyo, Japan, where he secured a bronze medal in the 10-kilometer open water event.
Since then, he has established himself as a formidable competitor in open-water swimming competitions. His achievements include winning a gold and silver medal at the FINA Marathon Swim World Series in 2019, as well as two silver and one bronze medal in 2022.
At the 2023 Australian Open Water Championships, Nicholas finished as the runner-up in the 5-kilometer event, missing out on first place by less than one-tenth of a second behind Kyle Lee.
The 26-year-old was part of the Australian team that claimed the bronze medal in the open water team event at the previous year’s World Aquatics Championships. He aims to secure another podium finish at this year’s event in Doha before competing in his first Olympic Games in Paris later in the year.
In 2024, Nicholas Sloman from Australia earned his second event title, repeating his victory in 2019. Sloman touched the finish line in a time of 18 minutes and 29 seconds, beating the next closest competitor by nearly one and a half minutes.

One of his biggest achievements was winning the 10km race at the 2019 World Series event in Nantou, Chinese Taipei, clocking an outstanding time of 1:56:31.20. Sloman has participated in several other World Series competitions, including in Seychelles in 2019. He also competed for a spot at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by racing in the qualifier event in Setubal Bay, Portugal in 2021.
Additionally, he has contested the FINA Marathon Swim World Series pro circuit, finishing 54th at the 2018 Doha leg. Sloman’s international experience extends to the 2018 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Chiba, Japan, where he gained valuable experience.
