On the final day of the boxing event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games World Qualifying Tournament in Busto Arsizio, Italy, Team USA had a slow beginning. However, Omari Jones from Orlando, Florida ended the day on a high note by securing his place in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris with a 4-1 victory over India’s Nishant Dev.
Jones was the fifth and last American boxer to compete in the ring that evening. In the first round, he took an early 5-0 lead by effectively using his jab and employing strong defensive techniques. Despite Dev’s comeback in the second round, where he won over four out of the five judges, Jones refused to let a cut he sustained during that round shatter his dream. He came out victorious after another round, where he once again showcased his jab and sidestep.

Omari Jones was born on November 7, 2002, in Orlando, Florida, United States. He is 5 feet 11 inches tall (180 cm) and weighs 156 pounds (71 kg). His personal boxing coaches are Jason Galarza, Karl Jones, and Craig Duncan.
Omari’s parents, Karl and Debra Jones have been a constant source of support and encouragement throughout his boxing journey. Omari also has two brothers, Karl and Demitri.
Moreover, he recognizes the contribution of his coaches, trainers, and mentors, acknowledging their influence in shaping his successful career. Omari developed a passion for boxing at a young age and was drawn to the sport’s combat aspect, which he initially experienced through karate.
Omari Jones is currently a student at Valencia College in Florida. He began taking classes at Valencia while attending Edgewater High School and expresses gratitude for the college’s flexibility, which allows him to take online classes while traveling and training for boxing competitions. His plan is to earn a degree in business while following his Olympic dreams and promoting his clothing line, “Dollar and Dream.”
Omari Jones’s Early Years of His Career
In 2018, Omari took part in the USA Junior Olympics Tournament held in the Civic Center, Charleston. He defeated Derek Smith in the quarterfinal round, then won against Amari Jones in the semifinal, but lost to Antwan Coach in the championship finals.
That same year, he also competed at the USA Youth National Championships in Salt Lake City’s Salt Palace Convention Center, where he lost in the initial round against Xander Zayas.
In 2019, Omari participated in the USA Eastern Regional Youth Open Tournament at the Columbus Convention Center in Columbus. He won against Steve Cunningha in the preliminary round but later lost to Antonio Perez in the open initial round.
Omari Jones Recent Years and World Championships
In 2021, Omari won the 2020 USA National Championships held at the Shreveport Convention Center in Shreveport. He defeated Efrain Loredo, Jarias Lott, and Jessie Fletcher III in the preliminary rounds, then also beat Steve Cunningham in the quarterfinals. At this event, he defeated Ramon Acosta in the semifinals and later Angel Perez in the finals.
That same year, he won the silver medal in the 67kg category at the 2021 AIBA World Championships in Stark Arena, Belgrade. He defeated Djo Kayala, Tyler Jolly, and Martin Skogheim in the preliminary rounds, then beat Wanderson Oliveira in the quarterfinals and Lasha Guruli in the semifinals before losing to Sewon Okazawa in the finals.

In 2022, Jones displayed his skills by securing first position at the 2022 USA Boxing International Invitational. His impressive performance earned him a third-place finish at the 2022 AMBC Elite Championships.
In 2023, Jones emerged victorious at the 2023 Gee Bee International Tournament in Urheilutalo, Helsinki, where he defeated Martin Skogheim in the quarterfinals, Junior Petanqui in the semifinals, and Ioan Croft in the finals, showcasing his prowess in the ring.
He also secured first position at the 2023 Czech Republic Grand Prix held in the House of Culture, Usti nad Labem, defeating Martin Skogheim in the quarterfinals, Damian Durkacz in the semifinals, and Milos Bartl in the finals. Additionally, he participated in the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 but lost to Marco Verde in the quarterfinals of the men’s 71kg category.
