Australian Sport Climber Sam Lavender qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024

Australian climber Sam Lavender has competed for his country several times and he is qualified for the Paris Olympics in 2024 after taking home the silver medal at the IFSC Oceania Qualifier in Melbourne.

Sam Lavender qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024

Sam Lavender earned a spot to compete at the Paris Olympics in 2024 for sport climbing. He achieved this by coming in second place at the IFSC Oceania Qualifying event held in Melbourne.

In the semi-finals, Sam scored 128.5 points. In the final round, he scored 122.8 points. His scores were higher than his competitor Dylan Parks, who got 108.6 points in the semi-finals and 105.2 points in the finals.

Despite Sam’s efforts, he could not outscore Campbell Harrison, a previous top climber. Campbell scored 149.5 points in the semi-finals and 154.1 points in the final round, securing first place over Sam.

Sam Lavender’s Early Life and Education

Sam Lavender was born in the year 2000. He is from Australia and his sport is climbing. Sam has been climbing for 5 years. He practices and trains at the Hot Rock Adventure Center, which is his home gym.

In addition to climbing, Sam enjoys mountain biking (MTB) and cycling as hobbies.

Over the years, Sam has represented the Australian climbing team multiple times. His big goal is to compete in the climbing events at the Olympics. Sam gets motivation and inspiration from his coach and fellow climbers. He really likes eating pistachios.

Currently, Sam is a student at Lancaster University located in Lancashire, England, United Kingdom.

Sam Lavender National Championships

On October 15, 2017, Sam took part in the Oceania Continental Championship & Oceania Youth Championships event in Noumea, France. He competed in the Boulder Men category and remarkably came in first place. On the same day, he also participated in the Lead Youth Male category at the same event and secured second place.

Later that year in 2017, Sam finished fourth in the Boulder Youth Male category at the Oceania Continental Championship & Oceania Youth Championships held in Noumea, France. On June 19, he came in fifth place in the Lead Youth Male category at the Oceania Continental Championships competition in Sydney, Australia.

Sam Recent years

On August 16, 2018, Sam came in 47th place in the Boulder Juniors Men category at the IFSC Youth World Championships event held in Moscow, Russia. He also took part in many other championships around this time but did not finish in any of the top positions.

On August 31, 2019, Sam secured 15th place in the Boulder Combined Juniors Male category at the IFSC Youth World Championships in Arco, Italy. Also on August 31 of that year, he came in 21st place in the Boulder Juniors Male category at the same IFSC Youth World Championships event in Arco, Italy. Similar to 2018, he participated in various other championships but did not achieve one of the leading ranks.

More recently, on November 26, 2023, Sam came in second place in both the Boulder and Lead Men categories at the IFSC Oceania Qualifier competition held in Melbourne, Australia.
