Sarah Ann Hildebrandt, an American freestyle wrestler born on September 23, 1993, earned the bronze medal in the women’s 50 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Sarah Hildebrandt won four medals at the World Wrestling Championships.

She has seven Pan American Wrestling Championship gold medals and a gold medal at the Pan American Games. She has also qualified for the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Sarah Hildebrandt, from Granger, Indiana and a graduate of Penn High School, secured another place on the United States team. She dominated Jimenez, a talented high school wrestler from Tucson, Arizona, in a lopsided 50 kg (110 pound) championship match at the US Olympic Trials in State College, Pennsylvania.

Hildebrandt is one win away from qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics. She won two consecutive bouts against Jimenez by technical fall, with scores of 10-0 and 10-0, successfully defending against every attack from Jimenez. In Paris, France, from July 26 through August 11, Hildebrandt will aim for the long-awaited gold medal that has eluded her so far.

“They (family) are everything,” said Hildebrandt. “I got ready for the Tokyo Olympics with my sister, now I’m getting ready for Paris with my brother. It’s surreal. It’s a dream come true. They are the reason I keep going.”

Sarah’s Brother Drew always helped her improve

Sarah Ann Hildebrandt was born on September 23, 1993, in Granger, Indiana, United States. Currently, she lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Her parents are Nancy and Chris Hildebrandt. She has two brothers, Cory and Drew, and one sister named Amy.

Sarah’s height is 160 cm (5.2 ft; 63 in), and she weighs 50 kg (110 lbs). Her brother Drew was a former state champion at Penn High School in 2016 and an All-American at Central Michigan University. He moved to help Sarah with her training.

When growing up, Hildebrandt loved pets and had a dog named Zeppelin. Now, she has a cat, which she often shares pictures of on social media. Hildebrandt attended Penn High School in Granger, Mishawaka, Indiana, and later went to King University. Her hobbies include reading and playing video games. She is part of the New York AC/USOPTC club and was coached by Brad Harper.

Sarah Hildebrandt has been in a relationship with Donnathan Bailey since 2016. Bailey was born on December 12, 1990, in Mission Viejo, California, but he currently lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He is a former United States Olympic gymnast who competed in the 2018 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships. At this competition, he won a silver medal in two events, one of which was the parallel bars. Bailey was part of the 2015 US National Team.

He participated in the 2016 Winter Cup, where he won a silver medal on the pommel horse. Bailey also competed in the 2017 Winter Cup, where he secured a bronze medal on the horizontal bars.

How Sarah Started Her Wrestling Career

In 2010, Hildebrandt finished fifth at the Sunkist Kids International Open Competition in the senior 51 kg weight class. She was second at the Junior Nationals, third at the Pan American Junior Championships and the USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals, and champion at the Body Bar FILA Cadet Nationals.

In 2012, she was second at the University Nationals and eleventh at the World Championships in the junior 55 kg class.

In 2013, Hildebrandt represented the United States at the Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia, without winning a medal.

In 2016 at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary in the 55 kg event, she lost her first match to Mayu Mukaida of Japan. She then lost in the repechage to Ramóna Galambos of Hungary, failing to win a medal.

In 2014, she was third at the Bill Farrell Memorial International, and fifth at the Grand Prix of Spain and Klippan Lady Open, all in the senior 55 kg class. She also finished fifth at the Dave Schultz Memorial International in the senior 53 kg class.

2015

In 2015, Hildebrandt won gold at the Pan American Championship in 55 kg and silver at the Dave Schultz Memorial in 55 kg. That year, she was also fourth at the World Cup in 55 kg and tenth at the Golden Grand Prix in the senior 55 kg.

In 2016, she won silver at the Klippan Lady Open in 55 kg and Dave Schultz Memorial in 53 kg in the senior levels. Hildebrandt also finished tenth at the Golden Grand Prix and World Championships in the 55 kg senior class.

In 2017, she won silver in the women’s 55 kg event at the Golden Grand Prix Ivan Yarygin in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

In 2018, Hildebrandt won bronze in the 53 kg event at the Klippan Lady Open in Sweden. She also competed at the Wrestling World Cup in women’s freestyle. She won gold at the Pan American Championships in Lima, Peru in 53 kg. At the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, she won silver in 53 kg.

In 2019, she won gold in the 53 kg event at the Golden Grand Prix Ivan Yarygin in Russia and the Pan American Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In June, Hildebrandt won gold in 53 kg at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. That year, she also competed in women’s freestyle at the World Cup.

In March 2020, at the Pan American Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament, Hildebrandt earned a spot for the United States. In April 2021, at the U.S. Team Trials, she secured her place to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Hildebrandt lost her semifinal match after leading 7-2 midway and 7-6 with only 12 seconds left. However, her opponent Sun Yanan of China scored a 4-point throw at the end to win. In the bronze medal match, Hildebrandt defeated Oksana Livach of Ukraine.

In 2021, she won gold in the women’s 50 kg event at the Grand Prix de France Henri Deglane in Nice, France. Hildebrandt also won gold in this event at the Pan American Wrestling Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala. She won the silver medal in the 50 kg event at the World Wrestling Championships in Oslo, Norway.

In 2022, Hildebrandt won gold in her event at the Pan American Wrestling Championships in Acapulco, Mexico. She also won gold at the 2022 Tunis Ranking Series event in Tunis, Tunisia. At the World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, she won one of the bronze medals in the 50 kg women’s event, defeating Alina Vuc of Romania.

In 2023, Hildebrandt won gold in her event at the Pan American Wrestling Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She also won one of the bronze medals in the 50 kg women’s event at the World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
