Yusuf Chothia, 23, is a boxer from Western Australia. He is a three-time Australian champion and fights in the men’s 51kg division.
Yusuf defeated Tarique Hipertur on a points decision at the 2023 Australian Elite Championships & Pacific Games Qualification event in 2023 to become the new Australian champion. He is also eligible for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Yusuf Chothia earned his spot in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. He accomplished this by winning the gold medal match for the 51kg weight class at the 2023 Pacific Games held in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
In the semi-finals, Yusuf defeated the previous defending champion Charles Keama from Papua New Guinea. Then in the final gold medal bout, Yusuf went up against the local fan favorite Clinton Tetekana from the Solomon Islands. He won this match by a united decision from all the judges, securing his place to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Yusuf Chothia was born on February 20, 2001, in Johannesburg, South Africa. However, he currently lives in Perth, Western Australia. Yusuf is 5 feet 9 inches tall (176 cm) and weighs 57 kilograms.
He has two brothers Ã. Chothià and Mohammad Chothia are also boxers and have one sister named Aa’ishah Chothia.
Yusuf has earned a postgraduate Diploma in Project Management and another postgraduate Diploma in Business Analysis. He also completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. For his MBA, he wrote a long paper on “The Application of Project Portfolio Management in Asset Management.” Additionally, Yusuf gave a talk at the Shanghai International School of Business about Sustainable Business in South Africa.

Yusuf Chothia is married to his wife Melody Stevenson Chothia. The couple got married on March 18, 2023.
Yusuf began his boxing at Local Gym
Yusuf began boxing at age 15 at Perth’s Synergy Gym. The trainers there quickly noticed his natural boxing talent and ability.
In 2017, Yusuf Chothia beat Charlie Senior three times in boxing matches. These took place at the Platinum Restaurant and Function Centre in Perth, the Yugal Club in Leederville, and at the Western Australian State Championships. All the bouts were in the 50kg weight class.
The next year in 2018, he defeated Jarrod Kosorukow at a tournament held at the Dom Polski Centre in Adelaide. He also beat Charlie Senior again at the Western Australian State Championships.
At the Australian Youth & Junior National Championships that year, Yusuf won against Connor Read to reach the quarterfinals. He then defeated Charlie Bell in the semifinals of that same tournament. Likely, Yusuf won the overall championship by beating Jarrod Kosorukow in the finals.
In 2019, Yusuf defeated Vegas Larfield in the semifinals at the Australian U19, U17, and U15 Championships held at the Carrara Basketball Stadium on the Gold Coast. He probably won that whole championship by beating Jack Barrett in the finals. That same year, he also beat Tyler Harrington at an Olympic qualifying event at the Whitehorse Club in Melbourne in the 50kg division.

In 2021, Yusuf Chothia lost to Niklas Geracitano in the finals of the 50kg weight class at the Western Australian State Championships held in Perth.
Late in 2022, after taking an almost two-year break from boxing, Yusuf set a new goal to try to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In 2023, he became the Australian champion by defeating Tarique Hipertur based on the judges’ scoring at the 2023 Australian Elite Championships & Pacific Games Qualification event.

This victory secured his spot on the Australian boxing team for the Pacific Games. His success there meant he would be one of a record 12 Australian boxers competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Also in 2023, Yusuf won the gold medal match for the 51kg division at the Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands. He beat the Solomon Islander boxer Clinton Tetekana in the finals by a decision from all judges.
In 2024, by winning the Oceania qualifying tournament at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands, Yusuf earned his place on Australia’s Olympic boxing team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
